Strength of art

Since September 2008, Louisburgh Community Project has been working with a group of young people, aged between 12 and 18 years of age on a series of performance based arts projects. The Snakes most recent project was a live installation piece called 'Strength of Art' that was performed in Louisburgh on 24th May 2009. The art pieces from this installation are now on permanent display in the Granuaile Centre in Louisburgh.
The Snakes original ambition was to launch the tenth Sonas festival programme. This led onto a street theatre performance in Westport during the Westport Arts Festival. On the basis of these performances, the talented group was invited to perform at the annual Aontas Hallowe'en Parade in Dublin and to participate in the finale after the parade. The group created a piece for the Winter Solstice and performed this in Louisburgh on 21st December 2008. The Snakes also performed at the Green Schools concert in Sancta Maria Secondary School as well as participating in the second annual multicultural youth day 'Being Young in Mayo' in April 2009.
